The enormous number of cars has invisibly brought tremendous pressure to traffic, and traffic jams are common. The frequent occurrence of traffic congestion indeed causes headaches for many commuters. Therefore, to alleviate traffic pressure, many people choose electric vehicles and motorcycles for travel. These types of vehicles are not only inexpensive but also avoid traffic jams, so it is normal that they are welcomed by many residents. However, starting from May, motorcycles and electric vehicles will face new policies. Issues regarding increased driving requirements and three other aspects have been addressed, and many netizens have called for favorable measures upon hearing this news.

Electric vehicles and motorcycles are very cost-effective and are favored by many residents. With the increase in users, some traffic problems have emerged. Some valuable electric vehicles or motorcycles often violate traffic rules due to weak traffic awareness, such as illegal passage or running red lights. The emergence of these traffic issues has caused traffic impacts, and relevant departments have implemented strict controls.

As governance deepens, some irreversible problems have also appeared. Relevant departments have introduced new national standards for electric vehicles. This policy clearly defines the concepts of electric vehicles and motorcycles and specifically classifies existing electric vehicles.

China's traffic law clearly stipulates that citizens must have relevant certificates when driving motor vehicles, but there are no strict regulations for driving non-motor vehicles. According to the national standards for electric vehicle classification this time, some categories of electric motorcycles require drivers to have relevant certificates. In addition, relevant departments have also stated that starting from May 1, 2022, motorcycles and electric vehicles will face three new regulations.

First, current laws require motor vehicle drivers to be at least 18 years old, while for some related vehicle types, drivers must be at least 20 years old. To obtain a motorcycle license, you must be at least 18 years old. In the past, the country considered motorcycles as a special type of vehicle and had higher physical requirements for drivers, so it stipulated that people aged 60 and above could not drive motorcycles. This new regulation raises the motorcycle driving age from the previous 60 to 70, which has pleased many motorcycle riders.

Second, the country previously required citizens to pass exams from Subject 1 to Subject 4 to obtain a driver's license. Currently, Subject 1 and Subject 4 are theoretical exams, which we have already passed when getting our licenses. That is why this new regulation states that if you want to add a driving license category, you do not need to retake Subject 1 and Subject 4 tests. If you currently hold an F license, your main driving vehicle is a light motorcycle. You cannot drive a fuel-powered motorcycle with an F license; if you want to drive this type of vehicle, you need an E license.

A D license allows you to drive multiple types of vehicles; you can drive motorcycles, fuel-powered motorcycles, and light motorcycles. From May 1, 2022, residents upgrading from an F license to an E license do not need to take the theoretical exams of Subject 1 and Subject 4, and upgrading from an E license to a D license also does not require exams.

Third, in many regions of China, electric vehicles or motorcycles must have license plates and wear helmets when on the road. According to the new traffic regulations, if you do not wear a helmet, one point will be deducted from your driving license. Previously, the process of licensing electric vehicles or motorcycles was more complicated, but starting from May 1, 2022, residents can obtain license plates at the point of sale.
